Details

In the 1890s, Catherine Weldon, a portrait painter from Brooklyn, embarks on a journey to Dakota to paint a portrait of Sitting Bull, a renowned Lakota chief. Little does she know that this simple task will plunge her into the midst of a fierce struggle between the Lakota people and the US government over their land rights.

As Catherine becomes more involved with the Lakota community, she witnesses the injustices they face as their lands are confiscated and their culture suppressed. Determined to make a difference, she starts advocating for their rights, even in the face of hostility and danger.

Catherine's interactions with Sitting Bull reveal a strong bond between the two, as they both share a common desire for justice and preservation of their respective cultures. Together, they become unlikely allies in the fight against the oppressive policies enforced by the government.

As tensions escalate, Catherine finds herself ever more committed to supporting the Lakota people, putting her own safety at risk. Through her determination and courage, she becomes an inspiration to others and leaves a lasting impact on the fight for indigenous rights.

Woman Walks Ahead is a powerful and poignant drama based on true events, shedding light on an often overlooked chapter of American history.
