The Last Exorcism is a thrilling horror film set in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Reverend Cotton Marcus, an evangelical preacher, agrees to have his life documented by filmmaker Iris Reisen and cameraman Daniel Moskowitz. Cotton reveals that he no longer believes in exorcisms, considering them to be fraudulent. He claims that the positive results experienced by believers are due to their strong faith.
However, when Cotton is called upon by farmer Louis Sweetzer to perform an exorcism on his daughter Nell, he sees an opportunity to prove his theory to the documentary crew. The team travels to the Sweetzer family's home in Ivanwood but is met with hostility from Louis's son Caleb.
