The Host

A race of non-corporeal, parasitic aliens who go from planet to planet looking for hosts have come to Earth and basically taken over the human race. I...t's believed that, once inside a body, all memories of the host human are gone. Some few free humans remain hidden from them, forming a resistance group. When an alien Seeker captures a girl named Melanie and puts a Wanderer in her body, she hopes to find out where the remaining humans are gathered, but Melanie, a strong fighter able to converse with the alien in her commandeered body, convinces the Wanderer to say nothing. Disappointed by the lack of progress (though suspecting an empathy for the human), the Seeker informs the Wanderer that she'll be removed and placed in a new host while she herself will enter Melanie. With human lives at risk, Melanie convinces Wanderer to run away and hide out with the humans, but finding them doesn't mean they'll allow an alien presence among them. Jared (Melanie's boyfriend) wants her dead, but Jeb (Melanie's uncle) wants to wait, and Ian, tasked with guarding her, finds himself siding with Jeb. As Ian begins to fall for Melanie, a strange love triangle develops, with Ian wanting Wanderer (inhabiting Melanie's body), Jared wanting Melanie (imprisoned inside her own body), and no one knowing any way to separate the two without killing both. Show More

Details

The Host (2013) is a sci-fi film set in a world where parasitic aliens have invaded Earth and taken over the human race. These non-corporeal aliens, known as Souls, search for hosts to inhabit and erase all memories of the original human. However, a resistance group of free humans remains hidden from them.

When a girl named Melanie is captured by an alien Seeker and a Wanderer is placed inside her body, she refuses to reveal the whereabouts of the remaining humans. Melanie, possessing a strong fighting spirit, manages to communicate with the alien inhabiting her body, forming an unlikely bond.

As the Seeker becomes frustrated with their lack of progress, she decides to transfer herself into Melanie's body. Faced with the danger of losing their lives, Melanie convinces the Wanderer to escape and seek refuge with the remaining humans.

However, not everyone is welcoming of the alien presence among them. Melanie's boyfriend Jared wants her dead, while her uncle Jeb believes they should bide their time. Ian, who is tasked with guarding Melanie, finds himself developing feelings for her, creating a complicated love triangle.

As tensions rise and emotions intensify, the characters must confront their notions of identity and loyalty. The question of whether they can separate the alien and human inhabiting Melanie's body without causing harm becomes a central conflict.

The Host is a thrilling and emotional tale that explores love, trust, and the resilience of the human spirit in the face of an alien invasion.
