In the romantic comedy The Holiday, two women from opposite sides of the world find themselves in need of a change during the holiday season. Iris, a newspaper columnist in London, discovers that the man she loves is getting married to someone else. This revelation leaves her devastated and longing for a fresh start. In Los Angeles, Amanda, a successful movie-trailer maker, ends her relationship with her cheating boyfriend and is desperate to escape the memories of their failed romance.
Seeking a break from their troubles, Iris and Amanda discover a house exchange website that allows them to impulsively switch homes for the holidays. Amanda finds herself in a cozy cottage in Surrey, England, while Iris settles into a luxurious mansion in Los Angeles.
