An unemployed man looks down from his window at a female street musician singing in front of a symphony orchestra in his courtyard. He immediately falls in love with the songstress, and runs after her along the streets of Stockholm. They pass a lonesome woman, who at once falls in love with the unemployed man, and starts chasing him.

Loved like few but also shy and fragile. She with the thin legs, the wicked back, the radiance, the melancholy and the big glasses who for more than thirty years entertained the Swedish people with jazz and songs, revues and films.

Six year old Johan, a.k.a. Fimpen, loves football. One day his talents are discovered. It doesn't take long before Fimpen gets to travel around with the national team. Fimpen becomes an idol and media wants a piece of him all the time. It gets hard to catch up in school.

A group of party goers have trouble getting their boat ashore on a small island. The inhabitants of the island try to help, often with the help of an old sailor, and the results are absurd and hilarious.

The story of two brothers, one rich and one poor living next to each other , struggling along with their families and daily lives in the south parts of Stockholm in the 1930's.

When her mother dies, the poor and unknown painter Johan Fahlén takes care of Ninni. She is paralyzed from below the waist, but Fahlén promises that one day she will be able to walk. While trying to provide for the two of them, Fahlén also has to deal with a custody battle with Malinda Karlsson, who thinks it is an outrage that a painter who can hardly take care of himself is left to take care of a young girl.
