is taken prisoner by the Japanese. The pilot, named Lucas, is determined to escape and make his way back to Allied forces. As the healthy prisoners are transported by train, they begin to hatch a plan to revolt and take control of the train. However, their plan is intercepted by Major Harada, who has discovered their intentions. Harada strikes a deal with the British Colonel, Nicholson, who has been instrumental in the construction of the bridge, offering him a chance to redeem himself by helping stop the prisoners' revolt.
As the journey continues, the prisoners face numerous obstacles, including attacks from Allied forces and internal power struggles. Lucas, with his intimate knowledge of the area, becomes essential to their survival and escape. Along the way, he forms a bond with a local woman, Vida, who aids them in their journey.
