Only God Forgives is a movie set in Bangkok, where Julian, a man with a dark past, manages a Thai boxing club as a cover for his drug operation. Despite his outward reputation in the criminal world, Julian feels empty inside. When his brother kills an underage prostitute, the police call upon a retired cop known as Chang, also referred to as the Angel of Vengeance. Chang allows the grieving father to seek revenge by killing his daughter's murderer and then restores order by cutting off the man's hand.
As the story progresses, Julian's mother, Crystal, who is the head of a powerful criminal organization, arrives in Bangkok to retrieve her son's body. Instead, she sends Julian on a mission to find his brother's killers and create chaos. This sets off a chain of events that delves into themes of revenge, violence, and redemption.
