Details
In the 1990 film Memphis Belle, set in May 1943, the story follows the crew of a B-17 bomber named Memphis Belle. The crew, consisting of four officers and six enlisted men, is stationed at a US Army Air Corps base in England. Led by their stern captain, Dennis Dearborn, they are about to embark on their twenty-fifth and final mission. Their previous twenty-four missions have been successful, making them the first Army Air Corps B-17 Crew to complete their tour of duty.
Lt. Col. Bruce Derringer, a visiting communications officer, wants to publicize the crew's accomplishment, even before it happens, to boost morale during a time when good news is scarce. However, the base commander, Col. Craig Harriman, disagrees with the plan and wants to treat the crew like any other hard-working men.
The crew of the Memphis Belle is made up of individuals with vastly different personalities and backgrounds. As they face their dangerous mission over enemy territory in Bremen, Germany, each crew member has their own thoughts on Derringer's publicity campaign and their chances of success.
Memphis Belle portrays the camaraderie and bravery of the crew as they navigate the perils of war. Will they be able to complete their final mission and make it back safely? This film provides a gripping and emotional portrayal of the harrowing experiences of B-17 bomber crews during World War II.
