In the movie Mean Queen (2018), Julie Taylor, a recently hired teacher, takes over a senior math class after the suspected suicide of her friend and colleague. This opportunity offers a fresh start for Julie and her teenage daughter, Miya. While Julie hopes that Miya's experience as the new kid and the daughter of a teacher will be smooth, she becomes worried when Miya becomes friends with the school's notorious mean girl, Amy Turner.
