Letters from Iwo Jima is a 2006 war film that tells the story of the battle for the island of Iwo Jima during World War II. The island holds strategic importance as it stands between the American military force and the home islands of Japan. General Tadamichi Kuribayashi is appointed as the commander of the Japanese forces on the island and is determined to prevent it from falling into American hands.
