Details

In the German movie Kriegerin (Combat Girls in English), Marisa's deep-rooted hatred towards foreigners and her belief in their responsibility for her country's downfall begin to transform when she unexpectedly encounters a young Afghan refugee. Set in contemporary Germany, Marisa's story unfolds as the audience gains insight into her extreme right-wing worldview and her involvement in a neo-Nazi gang.

Marisa, a teenager with a passionate disdain for foreigners, starts to question her longstanding prejudices after a chance encounter with Svenja, an Afghan immigrant, who challenges her preconceived notions. As Marisa becomes acquainted with Svenja's personal struggles and discovers the complexities of her own life, her beliefs begin to unravel.

Guided by a gripping and thought-provoking narrative, Kriegerin explores themes of identity, redemption, and the power of human connection. Through Marisa's transformation, the film offers a critical examination of racism, xenophobia, and the impact of extremist ideologies on society.

Director David Wnendt masterfully delves deep into the psychological journey of his characters, drawing out compelling performances from the ensemble cast. Kriegerin paints a stark and unsettling picture of radicalization, challenging viewers to confront their own biases and consider the consequences of blind hatred.

With its captivating storytelling and powerful performances, the film serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of empathy and understanding in an increasingly diverse and interconnected world.
