In the movie Jakten på Röd Oktober (1990), the Soviets have designed a state-of-the-art nuclear submarine with a game-changing silent propulsion system. However, the Russian captain, Marko Ramius, defects, taking the submarine with him. With the submarine's advanced technology, Ramius plans to hand it over to the United States to prevent the Russians from using it to start a nuclear war against America.
