Details

Finding Altamira is a captivating historical drama that sheds light on the life and accomplishments of Marcelino Sanz de Sautuola, the man responsible for making one of the most significant discoveries of the 19th century – the Altamira caves. Set in 19th century Spain, the movie follows Marcelino, an amateur archaeologist, and his young daughter Maria, as they stumble upon a hidden cave filled with astonishing prehistoric paintings.

As word of Marcelino's discovery spreads, so does controversy. The scientific community rejects the notion that such advanced art could have been created so long ago, leading to a heated debate and threats to Marcelino's reputation. Meanwhile, the Catholic Church fears that the cave's paintings contradict biblical teachings.

Marcelino is determined to prove the authenticity of the ancient art, and with the support of his wife, Conchita, he seeks support from prominent figures such as anthropologist Émile Cartailhac. Despite facing skepticism and opposition, Marcelino perseveres in his quest to uncover the true origins of the cave paintings.

Finding Altamira skillfully combines historical accuracy with dramatic storytelling, portraying Marcelino's struggle to defend his groundbreaking discovery. This poignant film explores themes of sacrifice, perseverance, and the clash between science and religion. With its breathtaking visuals and compelling narrative, Finding Altamira is sure to captivate audiences with the story of a man who forever changed our understanding of prehistoric art.
