Details
In Exorcist: The Beginning (2004), archeologist and priest Lankester Merrin is summoned to East Africa to excavate a buried church. Merrin, still haunted by his experiences during World War II, is initially skeptical of religion. However, he becomes intrigued by the discovery, as the church predates the introduction of Christianity to the region by hundreds of years. To ensure the religious aspects are properly addressed, Merrin is accompanied by a young priest named Father Francis.
Upon arriving at the excavation site, Merrin encounters an oppressive atmosphere. Strange occurrences, such as workers going insane and a young boy being attacked by hyenas, pervade the area. Inside the church, signs of desecration are found, adding to the mysterious circumstances. As these inexplicable events unfold, Merrin is compelled to reevaluate his lack of faith and confront the forces of evil face to face.
