In the movie Epic (2013), young Mary Katherine, also known as M.K., returns home to her father, an eccentric scientist. However, their relationship becomes strained when her father becomes obsessed with finding a tiny civilization in the neighboring forest.

One day, M.K. finds herself magically shrunk down and encounters Queen Tara of the forest, who is grievously injured by the evil Boggans. Queen Tara entrusts M.K. with the task of delivering a pod containing the new Queen to safety. Determined to fulfill her mission, M.K. reluctantly joins forces with a Leafman warrior, two comical mollusks, and a daring young ally.

As they journey through the forest, the group faces danger from the villainous Boggan leader, Mandrake, who is intent on destroying the forest and its inhabitants. Together, M.K. and her newfound friends must tap into their inner strengths and unite to uncover the secret that could save their world.
