Peter Highman, a meticulous architect, is on a business trip in Atlanta and eagerly trying to return to Los Angeles to be with his wife, Sarah, who is about to give birth to their first child. Unfortunately, his plans are derailed when he gets kicked off a flight due to the antics of his fellow passenger, Ethan Tremblay. Desperate to get home, Peter reluctantly agrees to a cross-country road trip with Ethan, who is an aspiring actor.

From the moment they hit the road, it becomes clear that these two men couldn't be more different. Peter is uptight and easily agitated, while Ethan is socially awkward and blissfully unaware of his own eccentricities. As they encounter one misadventure after another, tensions rise and tempers flare. Peter is constantly frustrated by Ethan's ignorance and incompetence, while Ethan does his best to win Peter's friendship and trust.

Their journey is fraught with hilarious and often cringe-worthy moments, testing their patience and pushing them to their limits. Along the way, they encounter a drug-dealing dog groomer, a belligerent trucker, and even become involved in a car accident.

As Peter's deadline to be home for the birth of his child looms closer, he must confront his own shortcomings and learn to appreciate the unexpected friendship he has formed with Ethan. Together, they must navigate the challenges of the road and find a way to make it to Los Angeles in time.
