In the 1970s, Ron Burgundy is the top-rated anchor in San Diego. His news team includes sports enthusiast Champ Kind, dim-witted Brick Tamland, and ladies' man Brian Fantana. However, their world is turned upside down when Channel 4 hires a beautiful new female anchor named Veronica Corningstone. As Veronica's career quickly rises, Ron becomes increasingly jealous and their rivalry reaches new heights.
Veronica's success causes Ron to be demoted and eventually fired from Channel 6. Left with nothing, Ron must find a way to reclaim his former glory. He stumbles upon a story about a rare Chinese panda giving birth on US soil and sees it as his ticket back to the top.
