In the movie Harbinger Down (2015), a group of grad students embarks on a research expedition aboard the crabbing boat Harbinger to study the impact of global warming on a pod of Beluga whales in the Bering Sea. However, their mission takes a terrifying turn when the ship's crew retrieves a chunk of old Soviet space wreckage that has recently thawed. Unbeknownst to them, the wreckage contains tardigrades, small yet resilient organisms that were exposed to the harsh conditions of space radiation by Russian scientists.
These tardigrades have not only survived but have also undergone mutation, turning into aggressively mutating creatures. Now, the crew finds themselves in a deadly battle for survival as they become exposed to these mutated organisms. Trapped on the boat and with nowhere to escape, the crew must find a way to eliminate the creatures before they are all killed.
