Dark Shadows

In the year 1752, Joshua and Naomi Collins, with young son Barnabas, set sail from Liverpool, England to start a new life in America. But even an ocea...n was not enough to escape the mysterious curse that has plagued their family. Two decades pass and Barnabas (Johnny Depp) has the world at his feet-or at least the town of Collinsport, Maine. The master of Collinwood Manor, Barnabas is rich, powerful and an inveterate playboy...until he makes the grave mistake of breaking the heart of Angelique Bouchard (Eva Green). A witch, in every sense of the word, Angelique dooms him to a fate worse than death: turning him into a vampire, and then burying him alive. Two centuries later, Barnabas is inadvertently freed from his tomb and emerges into the very changed world of 1972. He returns to Collinwood Manor to find that his once-grand estate has fallen into ruin. The dysfunctional remnants of the Collins family have fared little better, each harboring their own dark secrets. Matriarch Elizabeth Collins Stoddard (Michelle Pfeiffer) has called upon live-in psychiatrist, Dr. Julia Hoffman (Helena Bonham Carter), to help with her family troubles. Show More

Details

In the year 1752, Joshua and Naomi Collins embarked on a journey from England to America with their young son Barnabas. However, their family is cursed, and not even crossing the ocean could evade it. Two decades later, Barnabas is living a privileged life in Collinsport, Maine, as the master of Collinwood Manor. He is rich and charismatically seductive, until he breaks the heart of a powerful witch named Angelique Bouchard. Angelique punishes Barnabas by turning him into a vampire and burying him alive.

Fast forward two centuries to 1972, Barnabas is accidentally freed from his tomb and finds himself in a world drastically changed. Returning to Collinwood Manor, he discovers that the estate has fallen into ruin, and the dysfunctional Collins family is harboring their own dark secrets. Elizabeth Collins Stoddard, the matriarch of the family, seeks the help of live-in psychiatrist Dr. Julia Hoffman to address their family troubles.

As Barnabas adjusts to the modern world, he becomes determined to restore his family's name and fortune. Along the way, he encounters love, betrayal, and supernatural encounters while trying to outwit Angelique and put an end to the curse that plagues his family. Dark Shadows is a humorous and gothic tale blending elements of fantasy, romance, and horror.
