In rural late nineteenth-century Australia, Captain Stanley and his men apprehend two of the three notorious Burns brothers, Charlie and Mike. The Burn gang is accused of brutally attacking the Hopkins family, resulting in the rape of Mrs. Hopkins and the murder of the entire family. Meanwhile, Arthur Burns, the eldest brother and the mastermind behind the gang, remains at large, seeking refuge in a mountain hideout.

Captain Stanley strikes a deal with Charlie: if he locates and eliminates Arthur within nine days, he will be pardoned for his crimes. This proposition not only offers Charlie the possibility of freedom but also promises to spare his younger brother Mike from the gallows.
