Details
Toula Portokalos is a Greek woman in her 30s who works at her family's restaurant, Dancing Zorba's, in Chicago. However, she is longing for something more in her life than just marriage to a nice Greek boy, as her father, Gus, desires. Her mother convinces Gus to let Toula take computer classes at college, making him believe it's his idea. Toula then takes over her aunt's travel agency, again manipulating her father into believing it's his decision.
One day, Toula meets Ian Miller, a high school English teacher who is not Greek. They start dating secretly to avoid her family's disapproval. When Toula's family eventually discovers their relationship, her father is furious about her dating a non-Greek. However, they all must learn to accept each other. Gus has to overcome his traditional beliefs and accept Ian as a potential son-in-law. Ian, on the other hand, has to embrace Toula's large and eccentric Greek family. Toula herself also goes through a journey of self-acceptance.
