In The Emoji Movie, Gene is a multi-Expression emoji who sets out on a journey to become a regular emoji. The movie takes place in Textopolis, a bustling city within a smartphone, where every emoji has only one expression, except for Gene. When it's time for the phone's owner, Alex, to send a text, Gene panics and unintentionally creates a malfunction that affects the entire phone.
