Mindhorn is a comedy film centered around Richard Thorncroft, a washed-up British TV actor who once played the lead role in the hit detective show Mindhorn. Richard's character had a robotic eye capable of seeing the truth. However, Richard's fame quickly faded after he became arrogant and insulted his co-stars and the Isle of Man during a chat show appearance. He left for Hollywood but failed to make it big, ending up balding and living in a flat in North London.
Richard's career takes an unexpected turn when a criminal calling himself The Kestrel begins terrorizing the Isle of Man. The criminal, with an unhealthy obsession with Mindhorn, demands to only speak to the fictional detective. Seeing an opportunity to regain some fame and publicity, Richard dons his iconic turtleneck and robot eye and returns to the Isle of Man.
As Richard embarks on his mission to catch the criminal, he tries to rekindle his romance with his former love interest Patricia DeVille and secure a DVD deal with his former co-star Peter Easterman.
With his outdated humor, awkward single, and cheesy catchphrases, Mindhorn is back to bring justice to the Isle of Man. The film explores Richard's attempts to revive his career and come to terms with his past mistakes while providing plenty of laughs along the way.
